Welcome to High Spirit: a newsletter on thriving outside the lines

Glad you found our sunny corner of the internet.

🌵 Here for those that want to live free.

You will find essays about self-responsibility, mothering, nourishment, and intentional work in the real and very online world.

I see the spiritual and the mundane as two sides to the same coin, so I believe our highest wisdom is interwoven with our most basic, bodily needs.

🌞 Hi, I’m Elise.

Last year, I quit my fast-paced job as a product designer at a dev agency to focus on my baby and my very tenuous postpartum mental health. I was at a loss about who I would be without my title, my income, my accomplishments. And I was struggling to find a way forward.

Now, my baby is a toddler and we have a second baby on the way, and I am healthy and well! I’ve adjusted to my new life and I am all in on this home and land, mothering and parenting with my amazing husband, and creating a values-centered way of life together.

I’m here to encourage others who want to extricate themselves from the overculture, from the narratives, drama, and pain that are not theirs, who want to empower themselves and live in better alignment with their deepest values.

Thanks for being here,

Elise

P.S. I’ve written many resources for folks looking to break into the product design/UX space on Medium, if you know someone looking for that kinda thing.

"If you imagine someone who is brave enough to withdraw all his projections, then you get an individual who is conscious of a pretty thick shadow. Such a man has saddled himself with new problems and conflicts. He has become a serious problem to himself, as he is now unable to say that they do this or that, they are wrong, and they must be fought against. He lives in the 'House of the Gathering.' Such a man knows that whatever is wrong in the world is in himself, and if he only learns to deal with his own shadow he has done something real for the world. He has succeeded in shouldering at least an infinitesimal part of the gigantic, unsolved social problems of our day." —Carl Jung, Pyschology and Religion, 1938
